Dieter Kovačič aka dieb13 has been a protagonist of turntablism since his beginnings in the 1990s. He not only delves deep into the noisy, abstract sounds of vinyl, but also adds breaks to the sound and creates independent, almost animistic soundscapes that glide from one mood to the next through gentle fadings and overlays. In 2000, Kovačič founded the platform www.klingt.org for experimental music from Austria. (Shilla Strelka)

confluent spheres Lounge 10pm - 12pm Panoramic terrace
Tobias & Fabian Schiel aka Floating Sketches

Tobias and Fabian Schiel, aka Floating Sketches, want to create and explore atmospheres with their performance on the viewing platform at the Klangturm St. Pölten. The flowing and organic sounds of their modular synthesiser leave room for introspection and yet invite you to immerse yourself in the depths of the soundscape. In order to react spontaneously to unpredictable moments, the brothers have deliberately decided against a carefully planned set and rely on analogue sound generators and complex generative modulations. This gives them a moment of uncertainty, which for both of them is an essential part of a successful live performance.

I will play a DJ set of records, my set is always improvisation, like any musician who interacts with the audience. I usually move between Acid, Deep House, Detroit Techno, Disco and Experimental music.

Broken Vinyl - Audiovisual performance 10pm + 11pm 3. Klangebene
Mieko Suzuki & Claudia Rohrmoser

For their joint performance, sound artist Mieko Suzuki and visual artist Claudia Rohrmoser explore the mutual influences of sound and image, sharing the same source material: vinyl. In her experimental live set, Mieko Suzuki uses broken and prepared records, turntables, effects pedals, and various props. Always aiming for unexpected results, she builds up a constant tension between action and reaction, thus creating slowly evolving, dynamic and bass driven sound textures that are rooted both in noise and electronic music.

Claudia Rohrmoser transforms still images of Mieko Suzuki’s taped records and vinyl fragments into a lucid visual universe. Exploring the characteristics of the given shapes and surface imperfections she generates dynamic virtual spaces from the grooves’ textures. The animations are created simply by spinning digital images at different speeds, just like vinyl moving on a turntable.
